Vol 14 – Parallels for Investing from The Gravediggers theory

In life, it’s always been a simpler decision for humans to work on a tried and tested path. This ensures a lower chance of failure and a possibility of blending with the crowd. However, progress in society comes from a narrow set of individuals or entrepreneurs who look at the same problem differently. This does not mean that they take a higher risk, this only means that they can view a problem differently.

This comes through in the field of sports in an intriguing way. The norm for sports journalists is to crowd round the winner trying to get a quote but that results in all of them get the same story. Jimmy Breslin, who was one of the most famous journalists of his time (Source : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Breslin) used to say – “You always go to the losers’ dressing room, that’s where the story is.”

That’s what made him unique amongst journalists, determined to be different and being willing to put in the effort.
